Google Business Profile suspended? What to do first.

A suspended or disabled profile can disappear from Google Maps and Search overnight. The worst move is a rushed appeal. Here's how to find the reason, fix the problem, and appeal once with the right evidence.

Before anything else: don't create a new profile for the same business, and don't submit more than one appeal for the same issue. Google's appeal rules say not to do either while an appeal is under review.

1. Check the status and the reason

Sign in to the Google Account that manages the profile and open Google's Business Profile appeals tool. Select the profile. Google shows the restriction, a link to the policy it says was violated, and whether the decision can be appealed.

Write down the exact policy Google names. Your fix and your evidence should answer that policy, not a guess.

2. Look for the usual causes

Most suspensions trace back to information that doesn't match Google's guidelines for representing your business. Common problems include:

3. Fix the problem before you appeal

An appeal asks Google to look again. If the profile still breaks the same rule, the answer is likely to be the same. Correct the name, address, service area or categories so they match how your business really operates and how it appears on your signage, website and paperwork.

4. Gather your evidence first

Google says supporting evidence must be submitted within 60 minutes of submitting your appeal, so have it ready before you start. Documents Google lists include:

The business name and address on your documents should match the profile. Mismatches are a common reason appeals fail.

5. Submit one appeal and wait

Submit the appeal through Google's tool and attach your evidence. Google says reviews can take up to 5 business days. Don't resubmit while it's pending. If it's not approved, find out why before trying anything else.

Want a second set of eyes before you appeal?

BPR's Suspension Diagnosis ($199) reviews your profile, website and documents, identifies the likely issue, and gives you a written correction and evidence checklist. If you'd rather not handle the appeal yourself, we also offer appeal preparation.
